THE STORY OF IROSKIN MEDSPA
In 1998, Thakshila Iromani Liyanage left the island nation of Sri Lanka, once known as Ceylon, and arrived in Virginia Beach with little more than ambition and a willingness to work hard. She enrolled at Tidewater Community College to pursue her associate’s degree and it was there, almost by chance, that her future took shape. A classmate named Luna, who owned a large spa at Hilltop North, asked Thakshila for help sorting out her QuickBooks, as something about the numbers, Luna felt, wasn’t quite adding up.
That favor became an apprenticeship. While working the front desk for Luna, a skincare veteran of twenty-five years, Thakshila found herself drawn to the treatment rooms rather than the reception counter.
Luna took notice and offered to train her. For the next five years, Thakshila balanced another job, evening classes, and this new education in skincare, absorbing everything she could. When she finally opened her own practice, she had just four clients and an unshakable sense of purpose.
Two decades later, that handful of clients has grown into a devoted community of more than 1,300, ranging in age from 11 to 100, and traveling from as far as Florida, Richmond, and Williamsburg to sit in her chair. Some families have now trusted her across three generations, a testament to a kind of loyalty that cannot be manufactured, only earned.
Today, that practice has a new name, IROSKIN (formerly known as Unique Skincare), a nod to Thakshila’s middle name. The med spa now sits at 1645 Laskin Road, Suite 103.
